It’s not a product that Daiya makes, but that doesn’t mean we don’t love it! A cool, creamy, dairy-free sour cream puts the perfect finishing touch on a taco or quesadilla, and it can also be used in baking (recipes for cheesecake and coffee cake often call for sour cream.)

There are quite a few ways to DIY your dairy-free sour cream and the “right” one all depends on your personal preference. To serve as a starting point, here are some of our favorite dairy-free sour cream recipes:

Can’t wait a whole day to enjoy your dairy-free sour cream? We hear you. This recipe can take as little as thirty minutes and while the consistency won’t be as thick as a more time-intensive version, it will definitely do in a pinch – and, as the blogger says, it’s especially great for baking.

This recipe is actually quite quick and easy – as long as you are able to soak your cashews (the main ingredient here) overnight first. Apple cider vinegar and lemon juice adds the right amount of tartness and tang, making this taste comparable to dairy sour cream’s – and it’s also easy to adjust the thickness to your liking.

Can’t eat nuts? This recipe’s for you! Instead of cashews or soy, it calls for coconut milk and probiotic powder to sit for a day or two until it has thickened into the perfect sour cream-like consistency. And while it may have a mild coconut flavor when eaten right off the spoon, that will surely be masked by whatever dish you’re using the sour cream in.
