Juicy Lucy

Posted on July 30, 2020

There are few things better than a classic burger, made plant-based. And like all other plant-powered alternatives, it’s what’s on the inside that matters most. Which is why we’ve fallen in love with this cheezy, vegan Juicy Lucy.

First, for those of you who haven’t had a chance to taste this creative burger style, it’s called a ‘Juicy Lucy’, which sets itself apart by putting the cheese inside of the patty. The original cheese-stuffed burger was born in the heart of Minnesota and has been a staple of midwestern burger culture ever since.

With the rise of plant-based options, what better time to create a deliciously dairy-free Juicy Lucy, inspired by the classic!

First, start prepping those fresh ingredients. For this ‘Fiesta Juicy Lucy’, we prepared ground plant-based meat, chopped bell peppers, cilantro, jalapenos, Daiya Monterey Jack Style Blocks, and our new, extra-melty Mozzarella Style Cutting Board Shreds.

Next, season the ground plant-based meat with spices of your choice and mold into two patties. One patty should act as a “base” for all of the fresh ingredients inside of the burger so it will need to be molded larger than the other. After creating the base, add cilantro, jalapeños, chopped bell peppers, Daiya Monterey Jack Style Blocks, and Mozzarella Style Cutting Board Shreds. You’re now halfway to Juicy Lucy feasting!

This is when it gets exciting. After adding the ingredients on top of the larger patty, place the second on top and close the two. You now have the base of your stuffed burger! Throw the burger on the grill or cook them on the stove at medium-high heat, about 4 minutes each side. Smell the deliciousness while it sizzles.

Time to get creative with toppings—don’t be afraid to add in interesting layers of flavor. We opted for fresh tomato, lettuce, avocado, red onion, and of course, a side of fries.

Now for the best part! Take a bite and enjoy the layers of fresh flavor and melty cheeze with this dairy-free twist on a midwestern classic.

In the world of delicious ingredient combinations, we know that the possibilities are endless. So, get creative! Here are some of our favorites:
