Reset Your Routine

Posted on September 2, 2020

Whether it’s the hectic nature of back to school, the changing of the seasons, or the desire to give your schedule a little love, now is the perfect time to revamp your daily routine. To make it a little easier, we’ve gathered some expert tips and tricks to managing a busy life and finding joy in the chaos.

Morning and Evening Rituals.

As the days get busier, it becomes increasingly more important to develop morning and evening rituals you enjoy. This process should be one you look forward to completing and should ease you into your to-do list or your full night’s rest.

Examples:

  • Writing down 2-3 positive affirmations or intentions every morning
  • Drinking your morning coffee outside
  • Practicing 10–15 minutes of reflective journaling before bed
  • Doing relaxing yoga and stretches before bed

Mindful Plant-Based Eating.

Being mindful of the nutrients that you put into your body is another great way to ground yourself. Eating plant-based foods that taste delicious and are good for the planet can be an easy way to start incorporating balance and mindfulness into your diet. There are even plant-based options for whenever you feel like you want to  treat your body and mind (deliciously creamy dairy-free cheezecake).

Creating a Meal Plan.

As your calendar starts to fill up, creating a weekly meal plan can help take away the stress of cooking. A meal plan can be anything from a collection of plant-based recipes to a full grocery list, and takes the guesswork out of figuring out each meal on the fly. Another great tip is to have  a quick and easy meal option handy for when you just don’t feel like cooking.

Taking Breaks.

Connecting with the outdoors and getting your body moving is an important part of any routine. Taking a much-needed break can look different for everyone—eating lunch outside, walking the dog, sneaking in a midday workout, or simply stepping away from the task at hand for a few minutes. Taking breaks, moving your body, and getting outside has proven to raise your focus levels and re-energize your body and brain. Incorporate more movement throughout your day by setting mini-goals for yourself, putting reminders on your calendar, or finding a break buddy to keep you accountable.

Relaxation.

As busy as you might be, try your best to wedge in some much needed “you time.” You deserve it! Taking time for yourself allows for better reflection, organization, and rest. Also, this time doesn’t need to be alone, it can be spent fully present in conversations and activities with family and friends. “You time” is your way of recharging so that you can bring your best to other responsibilities throughout the week.

As you navigate resetting your routine, remember to enjoy the flow of each day, whether it goes exactly as planned or if it’s completely unexpected. When it comes to planning, listen to your heart, mind, and body. The truth is, there really is no perfect routine, just a routine that works best with your lifestyle and goals.
