Rolling Plant-Based With Food Trucks

Posted on May 21, 2019

Order up! As each new announcement calls yet another hungry customer to the window of a local food truck, more and more people are saying, “Make mine plant-based.”

Vegan Food Trucks

And with good reason. If you’re exploring new plant-based foods at home and love what forward-thinking chefs are creating at restaurants, why not check out food trucks in your quest for plant-based deliciousness too? Food trucks in the United States and Canada are working hard to meet consumer demand. In Atlanta, there’s the Slutty Vegan. In southern California, Southern Fried Vegan is a hit. And in Vancouver, Loving Hut Express has legions of fans.

In Austin, Texas, the #1 destination is Arlo’s Curbside. It currently has three locations and plans to add more. As their website proudly notes, “Arlo’s serves plant-based comfort food in a bistro style setting for the Austin nightlife scene. Our food is designed to satisfy omnivores and herbivores alike. We offer a fantastic alternative to the usual late-night trailer eateries.”

How late is late where the stars are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas? Arlo’s closes at 2:00 a.m. which is when the bars close. Their centrally located kitchen fires back up at 7:00 a.m., on the same day, and the trucks start drawing crowds again at 11:00 a.m. That’s 19 out of 24 hours, and a lot of Daiya Cheddar Style Shreds top burgers and sides that longtime fans and newcomers alike cannot get enough of.

General Manager Amy Sutton explains, “Our most popular menu item is the Arlo’s Bac’n Cheezeburger which is a homemade veggie burger topped with seitan bac’n and Daiya melted cheeze. A ton of meat lovers love our food and say it’s lighter and tastes great. We’ve been using Daiya for years, and it holds up well for the way we cook and has the best flavor profile.”
