Summer Daycation Ideas

Posted on July 1, 2020

Sure, this summer doesn’t look like we expected. Many of our cross-country trips have been postponed and the kids’ summer camps aren’t happening. But just because this summer will certainly feel different, it doesn’t mean that the summer of 2020 is cancelled. In fact, if we can remind ourselves to appreciate the small things and the simple joy of being outdoors, this summer can still be filled with joy and excitement (and delicious treats!). Here’s some inspiration on how to make the most of summer while not treading too far from home. You can call it your own, personal Daiya-cation.

Cruise On The Bike

Peddling your way around town is the perfect summer activity—you go fast enough to see a lot of scenery, but slow enough to take it all in. And as biking becomes more and more popular, it’s getting easier to find paths and trails in your area to explore. Bring the family, a friend, or make it a solo trip, just make sure to pack a cool snack (like frozen dessert bars) that you can enjoy when you want (or need) to take a break.

Find Your Inner-Hammocker

Few summer activities are as relaxing as gently swaying in a hammock in a quiet, shady spot. Bring a journal to capture your thoughts, or just take a nap while listening to the sounds of birds chirping in the distance.

Pack A Picnic

There is something about eating outdoors that is so relaxing, even if it’s only in your backyard. A blanket, some cold drinks and a basket filled with allergy-free, dairy-free, plant-based sandwiches and snacks is the ideal way to add some extra summer to your lunch.

Take A Hike

There is so much to explore, even in our local surroundings. Find a river, a lake, a trail, or even just a sidewalk to follow. No matter what, you’ll see some wildlife and hopefully discover something new.

Just Relax

Grab that book you’ve been putting off or order those watercolors you’ve been meaning to buy, and make some time for yourself. Reading, painting, going on a scenic drive or just relaxing outside are some of the best ways to spend a summer day. It gives you the essential time to de-stress and recalibrate, which is the true essence of summertime.
